I have over twenty years of experience of governance in Blackpool schools.
I worked at Mereside School as a teacher and served as a staff governor. Upon retirement, I continued to serve as an Associate governor, then became a Co-opted governor and since January 2015, felt privileged to be elected Chair of Governors.
I aim to foster a strong purposeful relationship with the Headteacher and staff and together with the members of the Governing Board continue to strive for school improvement.
I became a Governor at Mereside Primary School because I have lived on Mereside for many years and know the problems faced by the community.
I wanted to make a difference, however small.
I became a Governor at Mereside after I retired from my career in the civil service because I wanted to be able to use some of the skills I’d developed throughout my career in the community.
I currently have responsibility for H&S and Children looked After within the school.

I wanted to be a Governor at Mereside Primary School as I wanted to be a representative and contact for the parents of our children at Mereside. In my role as a Parent Governor, it means that I can be as involved in my child’s time at Mereside Primary School as much as I can be. Along with working in the school through Blackpool Catering Services, being a Parent Governor also helps to be involved and support the school in all that it does to provide for our community and I would welcome the opportunity to help and listen to other parents/guardians views.

In my role as a Parent Governor, it means that I can be as involved in my child’s time at Mereside Primary School as much as I can be. I am actively involved in the school every day and also play a key role in involving the parents, grandparents and carers within the community by not only by being a familiar face, but also by supporting the school through its methods of communication both verbally and using and updating social media sites daily. This means I have constant communication with the school which I can use to ensure parents are as up to date as they can be and I would welcome any opportunity to help and listen to other parents/guardians views.
I have been Headteacher at Mereside from 2009 and am also a Governor.
It is a privilege to work with such a hard-working and talented staff team, supported by Governors who have the best interests of the children at heart. Mereside School children are bright, inquisitive learners who are rightly proud of their school.
Our Governors give up their time voluntarily because they care about the children and the school and as Headteacher it is good to know that I can count on their support and commitment.
