CONSULTATION TO MOVE TO ACADEMY STATUS
The Governors of Mereside Primary School and Children’s Centre have passed a resolution to consult on converting to academy status as part of Fylde Coast Academy Trust.
We see this as a way of ensuring support for the school now and in the future from a strong and experienced organization. It will also be a means to enable us, as a good school, to work in collaboration with other high achieving academies so Mereside can go from strength to strength in the future.
The proposed change will mainly affect the finance and governance arrangements of the school and parents, children and most staff will see very little day-to-day change. Academy conversion will also not make any difference to the work of the Children’s Centre.

Chair of Governors

As parents will be aware, Blackpool Council provide free milk for all primary-aged pupils in Blackpool schools. They have recently made a decision to switch to fluoridated milk; you can read more information about this decision HERE .
The switch will take place after the October half-term break. Parents will have the choice to receive the fluoridated milk for their child or continue with regular milk, or opt out altogether. We will be sending out letters in the coming weeks.

We have been ranked within the top 20% of schools in the country for outstanding results in reading, writing and maths by the Schools, Students and Teachers Network’s (SSAT) annual Educational Outcomes Awards. We have also been named as one of Britain’s top 10% for supporting pupils’ academic progress, with improvements in reading, writing and maths being ‘significantly higher’ than the national average.
